Mwira
pink grapefruit, bright acidity, cherry tomato, light body
Mwira is one of the washing stations operated by the Mugaga Farmers Cooperative Society, just outside Nyeri; unlike in the Americas, where it’s much more common to find larger sized farms producing coffee, the majority of coffee in Kenya comes from small producers who participate in cooperatives. The coops operate washing stations where farmers can deliver their coffee cherry, where it is then further processed.
This lot from Mwira is a classic bright, punchy Kenyan coffee; flavors of pink grapefruit and lemonade jump out up front, supported by a lingering sweetness and rich umami flavor akin to cherry tomatoes.
